Well it's been a few weeks since I set this site up, real life and other more important things come up to put any work on the back burner. What important stuff you ask? Well the World Cup for one thing. England are though to the next round, but without Owen. I tell you the next game is going to be nail-biting, not counting the pints of beer consumed. Then there has been some issues with the Tech Haven Network. If anyone posted the £ sign in their post, anything afterwards would be truncated, included the £ sign - all thanks to MySQL 4.1's new character set features. Turns out there are plenty of other character that cause MySQL to truncated, like the € and proper quotes. What is strange is I cannot find anything on the net about this truncation issue. So I had to put together some fixes to stop this, which meant changing the Rares DB and the phpbb forum to UTF-8 and altering the database drivers slightly. Amazingly the only thing not effected by this, is Joomla. (Which I'll just mention they have released Joomla 1.0.9) Ok old stuff. First of all some of you may have visited the peterhatton.com website, and gone WTF? A DB error? How crap. Yes I am daff, as I completely deleted all the tables in the database that the site uses, and a few other sites as well. Thankfully I have a backup of the data, so I restored it into a different database name, and fixed the sites so they worked again, as I need the old sites to copy the information to this site. So starting with old information, I've put my files and notes back in for my BBC Micro game, Moonbase Beta...ahh that little gem! |
